Bursting with innovations: Hamm to unveil 18 brand new machines at bauma 2010

At the HAMM AG stand, an impressive number of interesting new products and features are set to take centre stage at bauma 2010 in Munich. The innovative roller manufacturer will be presenting 18 absolutely new road rollers. The new and extremely compact GRW 280 rubber wheeled roller is certain to cause quite a stir. The new mid-range tandem rollers, HD+ 90 and HD+ 110, are a further highlight. The new CompactLine range of small tandem rollers is similarly packed full of innovative new ideas.

GRW 280: revolutionary overall design and innovative detailed solutions

Anyone who sees the new GRW 280 cannot fail to be impressed. The rubber wheeled roller, with an operating weight between 10 and 28 tonnes, employs a totally new operating philosophy boasting exceptional visibility, a new and intelligent ballasting concept and the highest safety standards.
The operator's workplace is a spacious, completely glazed panoramic cab. Instead of the previous setup with two seats, the new GRW offers one comfortable, adjustable seat and thus maximum freedom of movement. The language-neutral control panel is connected to the seat console and is therefore always within the operator's field of vision. Operators can comfortably turn their seats with minimum effort and can move them right up to the lateral outer edges.
Built to offer the operator the best possible overall view of both the machine and the construction site, the machine features a revolutionary design. For the first time ever, viewing channels in the frame structure offer a view of the edges and the tyres of the outer wheels. What's more, a novel suspension of the front wheels allows for an uninterrupted view towards the front.
A new, hydrostatic rear-axle drive guarantees a high driving speed, and the powerful brake system featuring disk brakes ensures adequate safety. Sensitive control allows for precise adjustment of the speed as well as gentle and smooth acceleration and deceleration.
The flexible ballasting concept is a further highlight of the GRW. It enables variation of the weight swiftly and easily.
The future-oriented concept behind the GRW has already convinced leading international product designers. In early March 2010, they awarded the "new-generation rubber-wheeled roller" with the iF design award 2010 as well as the red dot design award 2010, two of the world's most important design prizes, for its accomplished ergonomics and functionality.

HD+ 90 and HD+ 110: the comfortable mid-range rollers

The new tandem rollers in the HD+ series were also honoured – with the iF design award 2010 in gold. They now belong to the top 50 in a competitive field of far more than 2,500 products. They further won the coveted red dot design award 2010, ranking them among the most highly decorated construction machines in the world. And they were nominated for the bauma innovation prize 2010 in the design category!

An impressive selection of new mid-range HD+ rollers will be on display at the Hamm stand at bauma. The HD+ 90 (operating weight approx. 9 tonnes) and HD+ 110 (operating weight approx. 11 tonnes) articulated tandem rollers offer fantastic visibility thanks to their compact design and new XXL cab. An unusually large cab, with a vaulted glass roof, awaits the operator. A perfect view of the roller drums and the water sprinkler is available from every position, while the operating console with its display is never out of sight. It is permanently attached to the seat, yet does not hinder the operator in any way. The intelligent design of the glass cab prevents any of the supporting pillars from obstructing the operator's line of sight. Moreover, the cab is still ROPS-compatible.
The newly designed articulated joint allows a far superior weight distribution in relation to comparable tandem rollers. This results in increased directional stability and improved compaction quality, especially in bends and roundabouts. The offset during crab steering has almost doubled in comparison to the previous models in the HD series. This means that the tandem roller has plenty of room to manoeuvre, for example for precise processing of edges.
Exclusively with Hamm, the operator can use the front and rear roller drums at the same time but at different frequencies during dynamic compaction. The new tandem rollers are therefore ideally equipped to compact modern, highly sensitive road construction materials or materials that are difficult to compact.
It was also possible to boost productivity. The large water tank of the new HD+ makes it possible to work a whole shift without stopping to refill.
Hamm produces 10 mid-range models with 9 or 11 tonnes weight, including a vibration roller and an oscillation roller. There are also high-frequency versions for the US market, where compaction is carried out at significantly higher speeds. The HD+ 90, which weighs around 9 tonnes, is additionally produced in two models with split drums.

CompactLine now offers even more driving comfort

Exceptional visibility thanks to the slim line front end, low machine height and good handling are among the most important features of the CompactLine. These always have been and always will be the strengths of Hamm. However, Hamm has now improved the "internal aspects" of the series - in the future, power will be provided by extremely quiet yet powerful Kubota engines. In the HD 13 and HD 14 models in particular, engine power is increased by around 15%.
An operator platform that provides even more insulation against vibration increases the level of comfort. Extra handles provide easier access to the operator platform, and a new mechanism makes the foldable ROPS frame simpler to operate.

One operating philosophy for all

One operating philosophy for all – this is the concept underlying the new Hamm rollers, where all models now follow one homogeneous, modern and ergonomic operating philosophy. The compaction specialist, part of the Wirtgen Group, will be presenting this impressively at its "bauma technology pavilion". Thanks to easy, language-neutral operation and self-explanatory symbols, operators find their way around a Hamm machine straight away and can concentrate fully on the compacting task. The machines can be manoeuvred safely and compacting carried out precisely even at night thanks to the illuminated instrument panel and machine lighting.

HCQ Asphalt Navigator: the modern way of measuring and documenting compaction

Modern roads have to be compacted homogeneously if they are to withstand their high loads for many years. Featuring a "priority map", the HCQ Asphalt Navigator from Hamm complies with precisely this requirement posed by road construction firms. The system shows the operator what areas have to be compacted next.
To achieve this, the HCQ Asphalt Navigator determines the number of passes, the asphalt temperature and further machine-related data. All measured values are coupled to the position data of a GPS receiver. Several rollers can even be networked by radio. Based on this data, the system generates a map in real time on which colour markings show which areas have to be compacted next.
The result is high compaction quality throughout. At the same time, the HCQ Asphalt Navigator simplifies documentation because all data can be backed up and archived conveniently.
