Hamm at Intermat with a world first

Hamm will once again surprise the trade with a number of innovations at Intermat 2009. The new articulated HD+ tandem rollers, which will be presented to the world for the first time at a trade fair, are the most important innovation. Hamm will also present the HD 14 TT, a rubber-wheeled roller from the CompactLine, for the first time. The third innovation is the DV 65, an additional model variant from the series of all-wheel drive tandem rollers. The compaction specialists will also present the HCQ Asphalt Navigator, an addition to their measurement and documentation systems.

HD+ heavy-duty tandem rollers: more performance – more comfort – more quality

The new HD+ heavy-duty tandem rollers will be Hamm AG's highlight at the Intermat. The roller manufacturer will take two models of this new generation of tandem rollers with the "plus factor" to the international trade fair premiere in Paris. Based on a completely new concept, they are impressive with previously unknown visibility range, extremely convenient operation and excellent performance data.

Even from the outside, the super-sized cab looks impressive. It offers the driver a comfortable seat, which can be moved over the entire width of the machine, and an entirely new dimension in manoeuvrability. He has a perfect view of the drums and the water sprinkling from every position. At the same time, the operating console with the display is always in his field of vision because it is firmly attached to the seat without restricting the driver.

Initially, Hamm will market the HD+ with two operating weight categories: the HD 120+ weighing 12.9 t and the HD 140+ with an operating weight of 13.8 t. There is a vibration and oscillation roller in both weight classes. Hamm also offers a high-frequency version for the US market, where compaction is done at significantly higher speeds. This is also the world's first tandem roller in this weight class that can operate simultaneously with different frequencies in the front and rear drums during dynamic compaction. Thus, the heavy-duty rollers are excellently equipped for compacting modern, highly sensitive road construction materials or materials that are difficult to compact.

On the HD+, a new articulated joint ensures improved driving stability and increased quality when compacting on bends. The offset during crab steering has also been almost doubled in comparison with the previous models in the HD series. This means that the tandem roller has plenty of room to manoeuvre, for neat processing of edges for example. The HD+ offers a further advantage when it comes to productivity: the water tank with a capacity of nearly 1,200 l makes it possible to work a whole shift without stopping to refill.

Compact rubber wheeled roller HD 14 TT

A further innovation at the fair will be the HD 14 TT, a 4 t rubber wheeled roller from the CompactLine. Presented to a trade fair for the first time ever in Paris, this compact, articulated rubber wheeled roller with an operating width of 1.28 m offers the driver an ergonomically optimised workplace and is impressive during operation thanks to clear layout, driving comfort, manoeuvrability, agility and high productivity. This rubber wheeled roller also features all the other characteristics of the prize-winning CompactLine such as an optimum view due to its slim-line front end, its low machine height or the central suspension point for extremely easy loading, to mention only a few aspects.

DV series extended with DV 65

The DV 65 is the third new product by the compaction specialists in the Wirtgen Group. This all-wheel drive roller with an operating weight of 7 t is an addition to the DV series of multiple awarded tandem rollers with panoramic cab and allround-view concept. Thanks to a few modifications to the operating concept, Hamm has optimised this machine for rental or for construction companies with changing operating teams. The roller is steered from the high-comfort seat using a steering wheel and all operating parameters are displayed clearly to the operator on the clearly arranged graphic display. The tandem roller with an operating width of 2.75 m is equipped with the "Hammtronic" electronic control as standard and is available as a vibration, oscillation and combination roller.

Compacting asphalt homogeneously with the HCQ Hamm Asphalt Navigator

Hamm will also take new measurement and documentation technology to the Seine: using a GPS receiver, the HCQ Hamm Asphalt Navigator records the number of passes and determines the temperature over the entire area of the asphalt. The system uses this information to produce a "priority map". By means of clear colour codes, it shows the roller driver which areas have to be processed next. This results in extremely homogenously compacted asphalt surfaces – even at the edges. Here, Hamm is building on its success in earth moving, a field where the company has already been highly successfully for a very long time with the HCQ GPS navigator, which ensures continuous compaction control. The HCQ Asphalt Navigator successfully avoids over and under-compaction, thereby significantly increasing the homogeneity and the quality of asphalt compaction.
