Surfaces like container storage areas or haulage roads are often exposed to extremely high loads, in particular on large industrial estates. Small surfaces like these are eminently suitable for concrete paving using a road paver. Equipped with a special paving screed, the Vögele pavers are capable of placing so-called Paver Compacted Concrete, a special concrete for road pavers.
This new construction method was chosen for building the access roads and storage areas at Europe’s largest pulp factory, located in the German town of Stendal. Huge trucks delivering wood will take a heavy toll on the roads. With point loads of 200 tons, the roads and surfaces on the factory premises must bear loads twice as high as those on German motorways. A Super 1900 paver from Vögele equipped with a special concrete screed took on the job. The screed’s high-compaction systems – tamper, vibrator and pressure bar – produced the final density without the need for subsequent compaction by rollers. The road paver achieved an advance speed of 0.8 m/min on the 7.50 m wide roads.
